Our Adoption Process

Please take a moment to read our Adoption Process and our requirements.

If you wish to make application to adopt one of our available dogs, we request you complete an Expression of Interest Questionnaire which you will find on this website where our available dogs are listed (Please complete all areas and email back to us. Please attached any relevant paperwork required to complete your questionnaire (rates notice, letter from real estate, supporting photographs etc). An incomplete form can result in disappointment and unfortunately we are unable to email everyone back asking for correct information if you have omitted this from your enquiry.

Please also read carefully the profile of the adopted dog you are interested in. In your initial enquiry please state which dog you are interested in, we can then advise by return mail if that particular dog is still looking for a family. There may be conditions we have with some dogs ie: If our dog needs to be placed in a home with another dog, and you do not have another dog, then our dog would not be deemed suitable for your home; some of our dogs cannot be placed in double storey dwellings; some of our dogs require constant companionship, some dogs don’t like cats, etc. We will always list our requirements for our dogs on their profiles.

Please send your email to goldenpawsrescue@bigpond.com. Upon receiving your Expression of Interest, our Committee will assess your suitability. We will then contact you to discuss your requirements. A premises inspection will be conducted, which includes taking photographs of your home, checking fencing etc.  If our Committee approve your application as suitable, we can then arrange a “meet and greet” with your family and dog, and our adopted dog on neutral ground or in the dogs foster home environment. Please be advised that our foster dogs are cared for in Brisbane and in Hervey Bay.  If you are interested in a dog being fostered in Hervey Bay for example, you will be asked to bring your dog for a meet and greet.  If this is a successful meeting, we will then arrange for a home visit with our adopted dog. If adoption is approved, we will send you an Adoption Contract to be signed. Once we have received our Contract back, and the adoption fee is paid, we will arrange for the handover of our adopted dog. There is a four week trial period before adoption is finalised (you will also receive paperwork with trial dates). The ownership of the adopted dog remains with Golden Paws Rescue Inc. until after the trial period and the adoption is signed off. This will all be discussed with families prior to adoption of our dogs and is made clear in our Adoption Contract. Once adoption has been finalised after the four week trial period, Golden Paws Rescue Inc. will organise for the microchip to be changed over to the new family.

All Goldies that we adopt to a new family will be desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, intestinal wormed, heartwormed, flea and tick treated.

Please note that not all dogs suit all environments. We will always make sure the dog is matched to the pawfect home!

We currently only rehome our dogs in the Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Hervey Bay Area

Please note we do not adopt Gold Coast, interstate, remote Queensland or overseas.

While this may seem a long process, it is our process and works extremely well in finding our Goldies their furever home.

We will always do what is in the best interest of the dogs.  They are our first priority.

We are all Volunteers and donate our time when we can to assist with the Adoption Process.

Thank You.

Please be advised that Golden Paws Rescue will only accept Expression of Interest applications for dogs that are listed in our Adoption Program.  Please note we do not have "waiting lists".  We are not dog breeders.  The majority of our dogs have individual needs and some require special care, and we will always find the most suitable match.  Thank You.
